Race Day Weather

Average Temperature11.9°C / 53°F
Humidity76%
Wind28.9 km/h
Rain Chance55%
Typical ConditionsMid-October in Toronto brings crisp, cool autumn racing weather, typically 6-12C at the 8 a.m. start with low humidity and a chance of lake-edge wind along the waterfront stretches.

What to Prepare: Ideal PR temperatures, but the lakefront out-and-back can be breezy. Start in a throwaway layer, dress for about 10C of effort heat, and don't overdress for the cool gun time.

Wind Impact on Race Day

Wind at 28.9 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 2026 TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon?

The full marathon runs on Sunday, Oct 18, 2026, with an 8:00 a.m. gun start. The companion 5K is held the day before, on Saturday, Oct 17. The course time limit is 6 hours, so you must hold roughly an 8:14 per kilometre (13:15 per mile) pace to finish under the cutoff. Use our pace calculator to lock in your target splits.

Is the Toronto Waterfront Marathon a good Boston qualifier?

Yes. It is a certified, fast, and flat road course that is fully valid for Boston qualifying, and as a World Athletics Elite Label race it draws national records and championship fields. The mostly out-and-back waterfront route is one of the best PR setups in Canada. Check your target against the standards with our Boston qualifying calculator.

How flat is the course really?

Very flat by big-city-marathon standards. The route hugs the Lake Ontario shoreline with little net elevation change; the notable rises are a steeper incline and descent over the Spadina flyover mid-course and a gentle Bay Street climb in the final kilometres to the finish near Nathan Phillips Square. Watch for streetcar tracks and a few tight turns rather than hills.

How do I register and what does it cost?

Registration is open online through Race Roster on a first-come, first-served basis, with a representative full-marathon entry around CA$190 (early-bird pricing is cheaper and rises in tiers as the date nears). There is no lottery, but the marathon and half routinely sell out months early, so register well ahead.

How big is the field and how competitive is it?

It is Canada's largest marathon: the 2025 edition recorded 7,538 marathon finishers, the most ever for a marathon in Canada, against a 42K cap of 9,500. It also hosts the Canadian marathon championships, so expect a deep elite field up front and strong crowd support throughout.

Is this the same as the spring Toronto Marathon?

No. The TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon is the flagship October race organized by Canada Running Series along the Lake Ontario waterfront. The separate Toronto Marathon is a different, smaller spring event with its own course and organizer. Make sure you register for the October waterfront race.

What can a destination runner expect from the weather and the city?

Mid-October offers near-ideal racing temperatures, usually 6-12C at the start, so it is great for a fast time but bring a warm-up layer. Toronto is a major international hub with direct flights worldwide, and the point-to-point course showcases the downtown skyline, the CN Tower, and Lake Ontario.
