Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 2026 Royal Victoria Marathon and what time does it start?

The full marathon runs on Sunday, Oct 11, 2026, with an 8:15 AM gun start in downtown Victoria's Inner Harbour. It is held on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend; the 5K and Kids Run take place the day before on Saturday, Oct 10. Use our pace calculator to plan your splits for the 6.5-hour limit.

Is the Victoria Marathon a Boston qualifier?

Yes. The full marathon is a World Athletics-sanctioned, certified course and a valid Boston qualifier. The flat profile (max 25m, min 3m elevation) makes it a popular fall BQ attempt. Check your target with our Boston qualifying calculator.

Is the Victoria Marathon course flat?

Largely yes. The point-to-point loop along the Inner Harbour, Dallas Road waterfront, and into the Oak Bay neighbourhoods is flat to gently rolling, topping out at just 25 metres. There are a few short undulations along the coast, but no significant climbs, making it friendly for a personal best.

How do I register and does it sell out?

Registration is open online through Race Roster until capacity. Demand is high: in 2025 the marathon and half marathon both sold out in July, after which a waitlist opened. Sign up early in the year rather than waiting for race week. The full marathon entry fee is 165 CAD.

What is the course time limit?

The marathon has a 6.5-hour overall course time limit. There is also an intermediate cutoff: runners must reach the 13K mark by 10:30 AM or they will be moved to the half-marathon route or withdrawn. Estimate your finish with our finish time calculator.

What is the weather like in Victoria in October?

Expect a cool, mild Pacific coast morning around 10-12C at the start, with a real chance of light rain or sea mist off the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It rarely freezes and seldom gets hot, so conditions are usually close to ideal marathon racing weather once the day warms slightly.
