What to Prepare: Early April in Lincolnshire is cool (~9°C / 48°F) but the fens are exposed, so the wind is the real variable, not the temperature. There is no shelter on the rural roads, so a long-sleeve top you can tie around your waist and a thin pair of gloves for the 8am start are smarter than overdressing. A tailwind going out can flip to a headwind on the return leg of the out-and-back farmland stretches, costing more than any hill would.

Wind at 23 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

| Profile | Billed as the flattest marathon in England, with only about 6m of total elevation gain on an out-and-back through the Lincolnshire fens — there is no meaningful hill anywhere on the 42.195km. The route is measured and certified by the AUKCM (Association of UK Course Measurers), and finish times are accredited as qualifying times for other marathons. Starts at Boston Market Place by the Boston Stump, heads out on quiet rural roads through small fen villages then turns back toward Boston, and finishes at Boston College. About 20 of the 26.2 miles are on open rural fen lanes. |

Use Calculator →Entry is open, first-come, first-served — there is no lottery. You register online through the official site (handled via StuWeb), and places are awarded until the cap is reached or the deadline passes. The standard registration deadline is 18 March 2027; late entries are only taken if places remain. The full marathon has sold out close to race day in recent years, so book early rather than waiting.
It is one of the flattest road marathons in the UK, with only about 6m of total elevation gain across the entire 42.195km. The course runs through the Lincolnshire fens — some of the flattest farmland in England — so there is no real climb anywhere. The main course challenge is wind exposure on the open rural roads, not gradient, which is exactly why it draws PB-hunters.
Yes. The course is measured and certified by the AUKCM (Association of UK Course Measurers), and the organiser confirms that finish times are accredited as official qualifying times for other marathons, including Boston-qualifying (BQ) and London Marathon Good for Age. You do not need a qualifying time to enter this race — entry is open to everyone.
The marathon has a 6-hour cut-off. The race starts at 8:00 am and the course closes at 14:00. That pace (about 13:44 per mile / 8:32 per km) is comfortable for most runners, but it is a road race on open roads with traffic management, so back-of-pack runners should keep moving rather than treating it as a walk.
It is an out-and-back starting in Boston Market Place beneath the Boston Stump (St Botolph's Church, the tallest medieval parish church tower in England), heading out into the fens before turning back, and finishing at Boston College. Roughly 20 of the 26.2 miles are on quiet rural fen roads through small villages, with the town sections under a 30 mph speed restriction. There are around 9 drink stations on route.
Dress for cool and breezy, not cold. April mornings sit around 9°C (48°F), but the open fenland has no shelter, so wind chill matters more than the thermometer. A vest or short-sleeve top with arm sleeves or a light long-sleeve you can shed works well; thin gloves help for the 8am start. Avoid overdressing — you will warm up fast once running on a flat, fast course.
It is a small regional race: the full marathon recorded about 635 finishers in 2019 and has grown since, with roughly 850–1,050 full finishers in recent editions and a 2027 cap around 1,300. The wider running festival also offers a half marathon, 10K and 5K, so the town is busy on race weekend, but the marathon itself stays intimate. The smaller field is part of the appeal for PB-chasers who dislike congested big-city starts.
