| Typical Conditions | Cool, late-fall Lake Ontario morning, typically 4-10C (39-50F) at the 8:00am start and barely warming through the race, with a stiff lakefront breeze and a real chance of a cold, damp wind off the water. |
What to Prepare: Dress for a genuinely cold start and a windy waterfront: gloves, a hat and a throwaway long-sleeve top. The wind off Lake Ontario is the variable that bites on the exposed double loop, not the hills.

Wind at 24.4 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Use Calculator →The full marathon runs on Sunday, Nov 1, 2026, with an 8:00am start from Confederation Park on Hamilton's Lake Ontario waterfront. It anchors a two-day race weekend that also includes a half marathon (Sunday), plus a 5K, 10K and a kids' run on the Saturday. Note that clocks fall back overnight on the same morning, so set alarms carefully.
Yes. The course is a fully certified Boston qualifier, so a finishing time counts toward your BQ standard. Combined with its flat profile, that is why so many runners target it as a qualifying race. Use our Boston qualifying calculator to check your standard and the pace calculator to plan even splits on the fast double loop.
The current edition is a flat, fast double-loop course along Hamilton's waterfront trail, starting and finishing in Confederation Park, with only about 81m of total climb and an equal amount of descent. Earlier editions were famous for a steep downhill drop off the escarpment, but today's route is a genuine flat course rather than a net-downhill one, so train and pace it as a flat PR attempt.
The full marathon has a 6.5-hour course limit, which works out to roughly 9:14 per kilometre (about 14:52 per mile). After that cutoff you can still finish, but an official time is not recorded. Plug your goal into the finish-time calculator to confirm you stay comfortably inside it.
It is a mid-sized, intimate race: the full marathon drew about 693 finishers in 2025, so it feels closer to a focused fast-runners' meet than a big-city mass event. Registration is online through Race Roster with no lottery; entry is tiered, starting around C$148 early-bird and rising toward C$169 closer to race day, so signing up early is the cheaper play.
Hamilton sits on Lake Ontario about an hour southwest of Toronto, between the city and Niagara. It is a waterfront-and-escarpment city known for its waterfalls, the Confederation Park beachfront finish and easy access from Toronto Pearson (YYZ). The Road2Hope name reflects its charity roots: the event has raised millions for local causes, giving the small field a real community feel.
It depends on your passport. Visa-exempt travellers (most of Europe, Japan, Australia) need only an electronic eTA, applied for online before flying. Travellers from countries that require a visa must obtain a Canadian visitor visa in advance. Most fly into Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and drive about an hour to Hamilton. Check current requirements with the Canadian government well before booking.
