Of 146 current models, 49 are published to 100 kg (220 lb) or higher — and not one of them is a super shoe: every racer's published range stops below 100 kg.

The cushioning and stability needs of an 85 kg runner are different from a 60 kg one — but most reviews are written by 65–75 kg testers. Our algorithm filters our 155-SKU catalog to shoes whose foam compounds and stack heights are explicitly engineered for higher load: ASICS GT-2000, Brooks Glycerin GTS, HOKA Bondi, Mizuno Wave Inspire, plus wide-last Chinese options like Bmai Mile 42K Pro — and pre-selects wide-fit so the sidewalls don't blow out at mile 12.

Who is this list ranked for — does it still hold at my weight?

It is not a ranking. Shoes are grouped by the weight ceiling their maker publishes, then listed alphabetically inside each band. There are no scores, because we do not test shoes: ceilings are the fit ranges brands or reviewers publish, and stack and drop come from brand spec sheets or independent reviewers' measurements — the few estimated values are marked est. in the table. That is exactly what makes it hold at your weight. Instead of one top-ten handed to every reader, you read your own band — 122 models are published to 90 kg or higher, and 9 reach 110 kg. Same catalog, different answer.

Do 250 lb and 200 lb runners get the same answer?

No. Rounded to the bands this table uses: at 198 lb (90 kg), 122 models still list you inside their published range. At 220 lb (100 kg), 49 do. At 231 lb (105 kg), 19. At 250 lb (113 kg), exactly one — the Brooks Beast GTS 24, published to 130 kg. You can check that in the ceiling column of the top band. One fixed list cannot serve both ends of that range, and the 200 lb (91 kg) anchor most buying guides use marks where the market is still wide open, not where it gets hard.

How long will a pair last at my weight, and when do I replace it?

Nobody has measured it. No published study has tracked midsole breakdown stratified by runner weight, so any percentage you see quoted is guesswork. What has been measured: 22 trained men lost about 2.3% of their running economy in a PEBA super shoe after 450 km, while the EVA version showed no change; in 33 recreational runners at 700 km, midfoot plantar pressure rose from 387.8 to 590 kPa. Judge the midsole, not the outsole — press the foam when you clean the shoes and look for compression lines. Our mileage estimator shortens lifespan by 20% above 90 kg — a modelling assumption, not a measurement.

Should I go half a size up?

There is no study to point to, so treat it as a workaround rather than a rule. Sizing up buys width by adding length, and the price is heel hold — the heavy-runner review quoted in our guide, from a 6-foot-4, 240 lb runner, says the heel "just doesn't seem to get locked down". If width is the real problem, a 2E or 4E version of the same model solves it without the length penalty, since width availability is a separate axis from last shape. A spec sheet can tell you a shoe's published range and last shape; only putting it on tells you whether it fits.

Can I run in carbon-plated shoes at my weight?

Up to a point, and the point sits lower than the folklore. Of the 122 models published to 90 kg or higher, 34 carry a plate, so weight is no blanket ban. But the racers thin out fast: 23 super shoes reach 90 kg, only 4 reach 95 kg, and none reaches 100 kg. Past that line just two plated shoes remain, and both are stability models rather than racers — the Xtep 300X 2.0 and the Li-Ning Liejun 7 Pro. Carbon is not forbidden by your weight; racing geometry simply stops being offered before 220 lb. If you do move into a plate, transition gradually — the one action two independent research groups reached from different data.

Which shoes come in 2E or 4E and still hold my weight?

We cannot fully answer the 2E/4E half yet. Our width field records the shape of a shoe's own last — wide, standard or narrow — not whether the brand also sells a widened version of a standard-last model, and the variant data is still being collected. What we do have is the overlap: five models are built on a wide last and published to 100 kg or higher — Brooks Beast GTS 24 (130 kg), Bmai Yuanzhengzhe 6.0 (110 kg), Xtep Qingyun (110 kg), 361 Degrees Kairos 3 (105 kg) and Xtep 300X 2.0 (100 kg). Three of the five are China-market models, so ask about a 2E of a standard-last shoe too.
