Race Day Weather

Average Temperature15°C / 59°F
Humidity55%
Wind8 km/h
Rain Chance10%
Typical ConditionsMild and dry, often with a morning marine layer that burns off by late morning

What to Prepare: Early March in LA averages the upper 50s to mid 60s Fahrenheit (around 13 to 18C), but the marine layer can clear fast and the second half runs west into stronger sun. Start in throwaway layers for the cool Dodger Stadium morning, then plan for warmth and glare on the open Santa Monica Boulevard stretch. Pack a visor or sunglasses and do not underestimate hydration once the haze lifts.

Wind Impact on Race Day

Wind at 8 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Course Profile

TerrainRoad
ProfileThe Stadium to the Stars point-to-point course runs from Dodger Stadium to a finish on Santa Monica Boulevard at Avenue of the Stars in Century City (the route moved off its old Santa Monica Pier finish after 2019). It tours Chinatown, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Hollywood, the Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills before the long western run-in. Net downhill on paper, but deceptive: a stiff early climb past Walt Disney Concert Hall and rollers on Temple Street stack up the toughest grade in the first few miles, with a sneaky rise near mile 25. PB seekers should treat the early hills with respect rather than chasing splits.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 2027 LA Marathon?

The 2027 ASICS Los Angeles Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, March 7, 2027, with a 7:00 a.m. start at Dodger Stadium. The LA 5K and Kids Run take place the day before on Saturday, March 6. Recent editions ran on March 16, 2025 and March 8, 2026; the date shifts within early-to-mid March each year, partly to avoid clashing with the Academy Awards.

How do you register, and is there a lottery?

There is no lottery and no ballot. Entry is first-come, first-served open registration, and it closes once the race sells out. The full marathon caps at roughly 25,000 runners and the cheaper price tiers sell out months in advance, so registering early saves money and secures a spot. Register through the official McCourt Foundation event page.

How much does it cost to enter?

Entry uses tiered pricing that rises as the race approaches, generally running from roughly $185 at the earliest tier to a little over $200 later on. Prices can increase at any time and popular tiers sell out, so the earliest window is the cheapest. Charity entry through Team TMF is also available for runners who commit to a fundraising minimum.

What is the time limit?

The official cutoff is 6 hours and 30 minutes, measured from when the last runner crosses the start line. Runners holding about a 15:00 per mile pace stay ahead of the course reopening; those who fall behind are moved onto the sidewalks to finish. That generous limit makes LA a realistic goal race for first-timers and walk-run finishers.

Is the LA Marathon a Boston qualifier?

Yes. The course is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. It is net downhill but well within the qualifying drop limits, so a Boston-qualifying time here counts. That said, the deceptive early climbs make it harder to run a clean qualifier than a true downhill course, so build the early hills into your pace plan. Use our Boston qualifying calculator to check your target time.

Is the course flat or hilly?

It is a net-downhill but genuinely rolling course, not a flat one. Around 88% of the route is flat or gently graded, but the opening miles deliver the steepest sustained climbing, with a notable rise past Walt Disney Concert Hall and punchy rollers on Temple Street, plus a sneaky climb near mile 25. Total ascent is about 290 meters against a larger descent. Pace the first 10K conservatively and let the long western downhill toward Century City do the work later.

Where does the course start and finish?

The race starts at Dodger Stadium and finishes on Santa Monica Boulevard at Avenue of the Stars in Century City, the heart of LA's high-rise skyline. This is the current Stadium to the Stars layout; the old Stadium to the Sea finish at the Santa Monica Pier was retired after 2019. Plan finish-line logistics around Century City, not the coast.

What should I plan for race-day weather?

Expect a cool, often hazy morning in the upper 50s to mid 60s Fahrenheit (about 13 to 18C) with a coastal marine layer that frequently burns off by late morning. The back half runs west into more open sun and glare, so carry sunglasses or a visor and keep hydrating once the haze clears. A throwaway layer at the Dodger Stadium start handles the early chill.
