Course Analysis

Check your entry channel before booking

Domestic general entry is first-come and marked closed at capacity. The base entry fee is JPY 14,000 for both domestic and overseas-resident entry, but processing charges differ.

  • Domestic RUNNET: 6% extra.
  • Overseas JTB AMARYS: JPY 2,000 extra.
  • Overseas Run Japan: 14% extra.

Use the official overseas guide for availability and bib collection before booking travel. Entry information checked October 19, 2026.

Wave two loses ten minutes of the headline limit

Wave one starts at 08:30 and wave two at 08:40 on March 28. Both share a 15:30 finish closure: wave two has 6 hours 50 minutes, before any delay crossing the start line.

The first checkpoint is 5.4km at 09:38. From the second gun that leaves 58 minutes, roughly 10:44/km with no spare time. Treat that as a cutoff boundary, not a comfortable target. Plan toilet and aid stops within the official checkpoint schedule.

A return to central Fukui, with exposed sections en route

The certified course returns near its central start, but travels out through Maruoka and river embankments. Use the official course map to locate checkpoints and aid stops. On exposed sections, adjust effort to the actual wind rather than trying to bank time early.

Arrange the start journey separately from your hotel

The free shuttle is a park-and-ride service for runners using designated outlying car parks, not a general city or hotel shuttle. Runners not parking there cannot board. Reservations are scheduled for November 16–30, subject to capacity. Overseas entrants who did not use RUNNET must contact the organizer; see the official shuttle rules.

Overseas bib collection is planned for March 27, 2027, 10:00–18:00 near Fukui Station. There is no race-day collection and no proxy pickup. Bring your passport and proof of overseas residence; confirm the final location and time in the organizer’s March email.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the race start?

March 28, 2027, at 08:30 for wave one and 08:40 for wave two, Japan time. Follow your assigned wave in the runner guide.

Is entry a lottery?

Domestic general entry is first-come, and that quota is closed. Overseas-resident entry is a separate channel; consult the organizer’s overseas information rather than treating a domestic deadline as availability.

Is the seven-hour limit measured from my chip time?

No. The finish closes seven hours after the first gun. Wave two has 6h50 from its own gun, and start-line delays further reduce usable running time.

Must I collect my bib the day before?

Yes for overseas entry: collection is planned for March 27, 2027, 10:00–18:00 near Fukui Station. You must attend in person with your passport and proof of overseas residence. There is no race-day pickup. Domestic runners instead receive their packs by post.

Is this the Sakura Marathon in Saga?

No. Fukui Sakura takes place in Fukui Prefecture. Saga Sakura Marathon is a different race in Kyushu. Check the prefecture before buying transport.

Can I rely on cherry blossoms on race day?

No specific flowering date is guaranteed. Treat the blossoms as a possible extra and plan the trip around the confirmed race date, entry and travel arrangements.
