| Typical Conditions | Cold, late-fall New England morning — average race-day temperatures around 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) at the 8:50 a.m. start, with a high near 51 degrees F (10 degrees C) and frequent frosty lows around freezing |
What to Prepare: Early November in Manchester is genuine cold-weather racing: expect a frosty start near freezing, a mid-race high only around 51 degrees F (10 degrees C), and a real chance of wind, rain or even early snow off the hills. Dress for a start in the low 40s F that you can shed as you warm up — throwaway gloves, a beanie and a long-sleeve over your race kit are smart, and the cool air is actually fast once you are moving.

Wind at 10.2 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

| Elevation Gain | 317m |
| Terrain | Road (paved city streets plus a section of the crushed-stone Goffstown Rail Trail, hilly first half) |
| Profile | A genuinely hilly city loop, not a flat PR track. The course starts and finishes downtown at Veterans Park on Elm Street and tours New Hampshire's largest city — running through the historic Millyard along the Merrimack River, out to the North End, then crossing the river to pick up the smooth, car-free Goffstown Rail Trail before climbing back into downtown to finish. The signature challenge is the front half: the bulk of the roughly +317 m / 1,040 ft of climbing is packed into the first 13 miles, with the rail-trail section offering a flatter, faster stretch in the middle before rolling streets return for the closing miles. It is a USATF-certified 26.2 and a Boston qualifier, but the early hills and a small full-marathon field make it a tough-but-honest fall race rather than a fast course — go out conservatively on the climbs and let the rail trail and the cool air do the work later. |

Use Calculator →The Manchester City Marathon is held on Sunday, November 8, 2026 in Manchester, New Hampshire. The full marathon starts at 8:50 a.m. Eastern Time from Veterans Park on Elm Street in downtown Manchester, with the half marathon, relay and 5K all sharing the same start and finish area earlier in the morning.
It is a loop tour of New Hampshire's largest city. Starting and finishing at Veterans Park downtown, the route runs through the historic Millyard along the Merrimack River, out to the North End, then crosses the river to follow the car-free Goffstown Rail Trail before climbing back into downtown to finish. Course details can shift year to year, so check the official Millennium Running map for the current layout.
It is distinctly hilly, especially in the first half. The course climbs roughly +317 m (1,040 ft) with equal descent, and most of that gain is concentrated in the opening 13 miles before the flatter Goffstown Rail Trail section. It is a scenic, challenging fall course rather than a flat PR track, so pace the early climbs conservatively and use the rail trail and cool air to finish strong.
Yes. The 26.2-mile course is certified and a Boston-qualifying race, so a qualifying time here counts toward Boston Marathon entry. Because of the hilly front half it is not an easy qualifier, but the cold November air helps and strong climbers can still run a BQ. Check your target time on the Boston qualifying calculator.
The full marathon has a 7-hour course time limit from the 8:50 a.m. start. Runners need to hold roughly 15:16 per mile through 13.1 miles and 15:39 per mile through 19.4 miles to stay ahead of the course sweeps, which works out to about a 16:00 per mile (9:56 per km) overall pace for the full cutoff. Use the pace calculator to plan your splits around the hilly first half.
It is a small regional marathon, with about 572 full finishers in 2025 (567 in 2024), so the full course is intimate while the wider weekend draws thousands across the half, relay and 5K. Registration is handled online through Millennium Running; there is no lottery, entry is first-come and prices rise as race day approaches, so signing up early saves money.
