What to Prepare: Classic cold-and-damp fall racing. Dress for a chilly start with gloves, a hat and a throwaway top; the maritime wind and gravel-trail sections feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

Wind at 24.8 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Use Calculator →The 22nd annual PEI Marathon full marathon runs on Sunday, Oct 18, 2026, with a 7:00am start from the corner of Great George and Grafton Street in downtown Charlottetown. It is the centrepiece of a race weekend (Oct 16-18) that also includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K and relay.
Yes. The PEI Marathon bills itself as one of Canada's top-5 Boston qualifiers, run on a measured course using Athletics Canada and AIMS standards, so your finishing time counts toward Boston. Check your standard with the Boston qualifying calculator and plan your splits with the pace calculator.
It is mostly forgiving. The first 6 miles are flat, then the course rolls gently, never climbing above about 52m. Roughly 12.5km is run on the fine-gravel Confederation Trail before a downtown finish near Province House and Confederation Landing. Use the race time predictor to set a realistic goal.
The marathon has a 6-hour course limit, about 8:32 per kilometre (roughly 13:44 per mile). Course support and traffic control begin standing down as the last runner passes or six hours after the start. Confirm you stay inside the cutoff with the finish-time calculator.
This is an intimate destination race, not a big-city marathon. The full marathon draws only around 110-220 finishers a year (113 in 2025, 222 in 2024), so you get uncrowded roads, a quiet stretch of forest trail and a genuinely community feel rather than packed corrals.
Registration is online through Race Roster with no lottery. Full-marathon entry is tiered by date, from about C$98 early-bird up to roughly C$106 in the final week, before processing fees and 15% HST. Spots are usually available right up to race week.
Charlottetown is the birthplace of Canada and the small, walkable capital of Prince Edward Island, famous for red-sand beaches, lighthouses, Anne of Green Gables country and some of the best seafood in the country. Mid-October brings fall colour and quiet shoulder-season rates, making it an easy, low-stress race trip. International runners arrive via Charlottetown (YYG) or fly into Halifax (YHZ) and drive across the Confederation Bridge.
