What to Prepare: Dress for 12°C with a packable rain shell or bin-bag at the 9 a.m. start. A long-sleeve top plus shorts suits most runners once moving; cool damp air actually helps PB attempts.

Wind at 22.7 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Yes. The course is genuinely flat, with only about 85 m of total elevation gain spread across a 0-17 m range and no real climbs. The marathon covers two loops through central Antwerp on paved streets and riverside quays, which is why organizers and runners describe it as a fast PB course.
The route is a city-centre tour taking in Zaha Hadid's striking Port House (Havenhuis), the grand shopping street De Meir, the cathedral-like Antwerp Central Station, and the trendy Het Zuid district, before a spectacular finish beneath the MAS museum on the banks of the River Scheldt.
It is one of the easier major-city marathons to run a fast time on, thanks to the flat profile and cool October air. The main challenge is mental rather than physical: the two-loop format means you pass familiar ground twice, and damp wind off the Scheldt can feel raw, so pace discipline on lap one pays off on lap two.
Dress for a start temperature near 12°C (54°F) with around 82% humidity and a chance of rain. Most runners are comfortable in shorts and a long-sleeve or short-sleeve top once moving. Bring a cheap throwaway layer or rain shell for the 9 a.m. corral, and apply anti-chafe given the likely damp conditions.
The cutoff is 5.5 hours (an average of about 7:50 per kilometre). By police order the roads reopen to traffic at this pace; runners going slower may be asked to stop or continue at their own risk on open roads. This generous limit makes the race friendly to first-timers as well as PB hunters.
Yes. The TREK Antwerp Marathon is run on an accurately measured, certified course, so a finishing time here is valid for Boston Marathon qualifying (and other races that require a certified result). The flat layout makes it a strong choice if you are chasing a BQ standard.
About 5,500 runners started the full marathon in 2025, part of a record fifth edition with roughly 19,800 participants across all distances (marathon, half marathon and 10K). That makes the full-distance field mid-sized: large enough for a great atmosphere but without the multi-hour corral waits of the World Marathon Majors.
