Race Day Weather

Average Temperature17°C / 63°F
Humidity70%
Wind15 km/h
Rain Chance35%
Typical ConditionsEarly April is autumn in the Southern Hemisphere and one of Bunbury's most runner-friendly windows. The 6:30am start sits near the daily low of about 15°C (59°F), warming toward a high near 22°C (72°F) by late morning. Humidity runs around 70%, and April is statistically the calmest-wind month of the year (~14.6 km/h average), so the coastal sections rarely feel exposed. Autumn rain is rising though — expect roughly 11 rain days across the month and a real chance of a passing shower on race day.

What to Prepare: Dress for a cool, damp start that turns mild: a singlet or short-sleeve with arm sleeves you can ditch works well. Pack a light rain layer for the start corral. With the low elevation and gentle temperatures, this is a strong PB setup — check the Weather Score tool and dial in your target effort with the Pace Calculator.

Wind Impact on Race Day

Wind at 15 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 2027 Bunbury 3 Waters Marathon and what time does it start?

The Settlebox Marathon at the Bunbury 3 Waters Running Festival is scheduled for Sunday, 11 April 2027 in Bunbury, Western Australia. The marathon starts at 6:30am local time (AWST) from the Bunbury Runners Club on Ocean Drive. Confirm the exact date on the organiser's site at runbunbury.com.au before booking travel.

Is the Bunbury Marathon a Boston qualifier?

Yes. The course is World Athletics certified, so a qualifying time run here is accepted for Boston and other major-marathon entries. With only about 20 m of elevation gain it is genuinely flat and built for fast times — check your target with the Boston Qualifying calculator.

How do I register and how much does it cost?

Entry is open (no ballot, first-come) through Race Roster, linked from the official site. The marathon is capped at just 300 runners and the 2026 edition sold out before race day, so register early. The marathon entry has been priced around AUD 120; check Race Roster for the current 2027 fee and any early-bird tiers. The 2027 registration window has not yet been announced.

How hard is the course and is it good for a PB?

It is one of the easier major-distance courses in Western Australia: flat, low elevation (~20 m gain), on sealed road and coastal paths, with mild autumn weather. The cut-off is a relaxed 6 hours. Those factors make it a popular PB and BQ-chasing race. Plan your splits with the Negative Split Planner.

What is the cut-off time and field size?

The marathon has a 6-hour cut-off, meaning you must finish by about 12:30pm. The field is intentionally small — capped at 300 marathon runners — which keeps the event intimate and uncongested but also means it can sell out well before the date.

How do I get to Bunbury?

Bunbury is about 175 km south of Perth, roughly a 2-hour drive down the Forrest Highway. There is also a Transwa rail and coach service from Perth. Most international runners fly into Perth Airport (PER) and continue south by car or coach; allow a full travel day from the airport.
