Race Day Weather

Average Temperature26°C / 79°F
Humidity75%
Wind12 km/h
Rain Chance10%
Typical ConditionsWarm, humid tropical dry-season morning

What to Prepare: August is Bali's dry season, so rain is unlikely, but tropical heat and humidity are the real challenge. The 04:30 flag-off starts around 23-24 degrees C; the sun and humidity (around 75%) climb fast after dawn, which is exactly why the marathon starts before first light. Run by effort rather than pace, pour water at aid stations, and treat the daylight second half as the hard part.

Wind Impact on Race Day

Wind at 12 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the 2026 Maybank Marathon in Bali?

Registration for 2026 is closed. The Maybank Marathon uses a public-drawing lottery, not first-come-first-served. For 2026, Maybank cardholders had a presale (Jan 9-30) and the public ballot ran Feb 9-22, with results on Mar 16 — your card is only charged if you are drawn. Entry is credit-card only (debit cards are not accepted), non-transferable under the 'You Register, You Run' policy, and requires a photo upload for face verification at race-pack pickup. Watch maybankmarathon.com for the 2027 ballot.

How hard is the Maybank Marathon course and how much elevation is there?

It is a rolling course, not a flat one. The single loop through Gianyar's countryside has around 250 m of total elevation gain — no single brutal climb, but near-constant undulation past villages and rice terraces. Combined with tropical heat and humidity it runs harder than the scenery suggests, so treat it as an experience race rather than a PB attempt. Plan a conservative target with our pace calculator and add margin for heat and hills.

What time does the Bali marathon start and what are the cutoff times?

The full marathon flags off at 04:30 (WITA), the half at 05:30 and the 10K at 06:00 — all before dawn to beat the heat. Cutoffs are 7 hours for the marathon, 3.5 hours for the half and 2 hours for the 10K. Minimum age on race day is 18 for the marathon, 17 for the half and 15 for the 10K. Note that WITA is UTC+8 — the same clock as Beijing and one hour behind Japan — so plan your arrival and jet lag around that.

What should I wear for the heat at the Maybank Marathon?

August is Bali's dry season, so rain is unlikely (only about a 10% chance), but heat and humidity are the real challenge. The 04:30 start sits around 23-24 degrees C, climbing into the high 20s with strong sun and roughly 75% humidity once daylight arrives. Wear light, breathable, light-coloured kit, plan your salt and fluids, and slow your goal pace. Use our heat pace adjustment calculator to set a realistic target for tropical conditions.

Is the Maybank Marathon a World Marathon Major?

No — it is not one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. What it does hold is a World Athletics Elite Label, a prestigious World Athletics road-race designation and the first and only such label in Indonesia (held since 2020). Finishers also earn Abbott Age Group World Rankings points. The race is sanctioned by PASI (the Indonesian athletics federation), officiated by World Athletics and a member of AIMS.

How do I get to the start line in Gianyar?

The race starts and finishes at the Bali United Training Center in Sukawati, Gianyar. Fly into Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). The start is roughly 25-30 minutes by car from Sanur and about 30 minutes from Ubud — both convenient bases — and farther from Canggu or Kuta. The organiser sells an official Race Day Shuttle Bus add-on (IDR 60,000); otherwise arrange a car and leave well before the 04:30 flag-off, since rural roads have no pre-dawn public transport.
