Race Day Weather

Average Temperature15.5°C / 60°F
Humidity78%
Wind19.9 km/h
Rain Chance22%
Typical ConditionsCool, very humid pre-dawn start that warms quickly after sunrise

What to Prepare: The 4:30 AM corral start means you stand in the dark at around 55°F / 13°C with 85% humidity, but Orlando warms fast - by the back half it can hit the low 70s°F. Dress for the finish, not the start line: throwaway layers you can toss, and expect to sweat more than the cool air suggests.

Wind Impact on Race Day

Wind at 19.9 km/h can affect your marathon pace by 5-15 seconds per kilometer. Headwinds slow you down exponentially — a 20 km/h wind costs more than twice a 10 km/h wind.

Course Profile

Course TypeLoop (theme-park circuit)
Elevation Gain50m
TerrainRoad and theme-park pathways
ProfileOne of the few marathons that runs straight through all four Walt Disney World theme parks - Epcot, Magic Kingdom (past Cinderella Castle), Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, finishing back at Epcot. The course is essentially flat (elevation range only ~30 ft / 9 m); the only climbs are short highway on-ramps and overpasses connecting the parks. Certified and Boston-qualifier eligible, but a celebration race first - costumes, character photo stops and a 16:00/mile sweep define the day far more than the clock.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you register for the Walt Disney World Marathon?

Registration is first-come, first-served through runDisney - there is no lottery. General registration for the 2027 race opened on March 17, 2026 and has since sold out - entrants pass through a virtual waiting room, and the marathon typically sells out within about an hour. The 2026 full-marathon early-bird fee was about $242 USD (incl. platform service fee; regular registration ran about $252). With the 2027 race full, the remaining way in is a charity bib through Disney's partner organizations, which carries a fundraising commitment. General entry for each year's race usually opens the previous spring, so watch runDisney for the next on-sale.

Does the course really go through all four Disney parks?

Yes. The Walt Disney World Marathon is one of the only 26.2-mile races that runs straight through all four theme parks - it starts near Epcot, passes through Magic Kingdom (right past Cinderella Castle around mile 6), then Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and finishes back at Epcot. The park sections are the highlight; the stretches between parks run on connecting highways and service roads.

How flat is the course and how hard is it?

The course is essentially flat - the total elevation range is only about 30 ft (9 m), and the only climbs are short highway on-ramps and overpasses between the parks. The real difficulty is not the hills: it is the pre-dawn 4:30 AM start, rising humidity, frequent character photo stops, and the sheer length of the morning. Treat it as a long, festive day rather than a fast-course attempt.

What is the time limit and pace requirement?

You must maintain a 16:00 minutes-per-mile pace (about 9:56/km), measured from the last runners to start - the volunteer "balloon ladies" who walk the final corral at that pace. That gives roughly a 7-hour course limit; runners starting in earlier corrals get extra buffer. Fall behind the balloon ladies and you risk being swept onto a bus to the finish, where your race officially ends.

Is the Walt Disney World Marathon a Boston qualifier?

Yes - the course is USATF-certified and Boston-qualifier eligible (Course Score around 99.47, very fast on paper). In practice, very few runners qualify here (well under 1% of finishers): the early-morning humidity, character stops and large costume field make it a celebration race rather than a PR machine. If a Boston time is your only goal, a cool, flat, no-stops course is a better bet; if you want the experience, come for the parks.

What should I wear for January in Orlando?

Dress in throwaway layers. You will wait outside in the dark at around 55°F / 13°C with high humidity, but Orlando warms quickly and the back half can reach the low 70s°F (low 20s°C). Wear what you would race in at ~65°F and add a cheap top layer you can discard before the gun. Costumes are extremely popular but must follow runDisney's costume rules (no full masks, nothing that drags).

When and where do results post?

Official chip results post on trackshackresults.com, runDisney's timing partner, usually the same day. The 2026 marathon recorded about 13,291 full-marathon finishers - this is the 26.2-mile race only; the full weekend (5K, 10K, Half, Marathon and the Goofy/Dopey Challenges) draws roughly 50,000+ participants across all events.
